wonderful combination

Post by lech »

In one of tested by me games there was a wonferful combination.
I discovered that the combination doesn't lead to win and I modified the start position.
Engines can solve it, however by many (many!) depths they have some doubts (++, --).
[d]1Rb1r3/2P4k/6p1/pP2qp1p/4p2P/8/B4PP1/3Q1K2 w - -
1.Rxc8!! Qxb5+
[d]2R1r3/2P4k/6p1/pq3p1p/4p2P/8/B4PP1/3Q1K2 w - -
2.Bc4!! Qxc4 3.Kg1 Rxc8 4.Qd7+ Kh6
[d]2r5/2PQ4/6pk/p4p1p/2q1p2P/8/5PP1/6K1 w - -
5.g4!! hxg4 6.Qxc8 Qc1+ 7.Kg2 Qc3 8.Qf8+ Kh7 9.Qe7+ Kh6
[d]8/2P1Q3/6pk/p4p2/4p1pP/2q5/5PK1/8 w - -
10.Qd6!! a4
[d]8/2P5/3Q2pk/5p2/p3p1pP/2q5/5PK1/8 w - -
11.Kh2!! wins!!

In the game there was possible:
[d]2R2r2/2P4k/6p1/p4p1p/2q1p2P/8/5PP1/3Q2K1 b - -
3... Rf7!! 4.Rh8+ Kh8 5.Qd8+ Kh7 6.c8Q Qxc8 7.Qxc8 e3 8.fxe3 Re7
[d]2Q5/4r2k/6p1/p4p1p/7P/4P3/6P1/6K1 b - -
with 9...Re4 draw (fortress!).

(the combination - White's move 51)

In the play the start position of this combination was:
[d]2bR1r2/2P4k/6p1/p1q2p1p/4p2P/1B6/5PP1/3Q1K2 w - - 0 51
51.Rxc8 Qb5+ 52.Bc4 Qxc4+ 53.Kg1 Rxc8 54.Qd7+ Kh6 55.g4 hxg4 56.Qxc8 Qc1+ 57.Kg2 Qc3 58.Qf8+ Kh7 59.Qe7+ Kh6 60.Qd6 a4 61.Kh2
The move 51.Rxc8 leads to draw by 53...Rf7!! and fortress.
Probably the move 51.Qd5 wins.
It would be good to know the analysis of Houdini 3 on a very fast machine. :)
Maybe, I can't be friendly, but let me be useful.

I replied to the original post which was this position.
You replied to my post by moving the black rook.
what is your point about the first position?
what is your point about the second position?
[D] 1Rb1r3/2P4k/6p1/pP2qp1p/4p2P/8/B4PP1/3Q1K2 w - -
Sorry if it is not clear.
Your post for the "original" position shows the win move 1.Rxc8!! :D
But much more interesting is the second position (with Rd8).
[d]2bR1r2/2P4k/6p1/p1q2p1p/4p2P/1B6/5PP1/3Q1K2 w - - 0 51
The position happened in the game and now move Rxc8 leads to draw.
The analysis of this position can be very intersting.
It would be good to try it (high depths). :)

Is Martin talking about the modified position or the game position?
one wins and one draws.

If your engine doesn;t leave the move Rxc8 in the next depth, it means you should try another versions. Good luck! :D
