Odd Resignation

Post by jshriver »

Was watching a game of Waduutie vs Faile, 15min 15inc when faile resigned at this move.

3rRk2/6p1/pp1p3p/3P1q1Q/3P4/6P1/PP3PK1/8 b - - 1 33

Maybe it's late and I'm not seeing it, but looks like he could capture the rook easy with his.

If.

... d8e8
Qd8 ...

Would still leave faile a queen up.

Or.
... d8e8
anything else

Black would have a rook and a queen.

Either way seems a good position for Black.

Are you using 0.27?

In 0.27 icsdrone resigns when the engine sends an illegal move (or when it rejects a valid move as illegal). This is nice for running a bot on FICS since otherwise the opponent would have to wait till the engine gets flagged.

To see if this has happened you can look in the log file for the string "Bailing out".

Now it occurred to me that this feature should be optional since it might mask problems with the engine. The engine losing on time is easier to spot than an occasional weird resign.
