Sting SF 2.0

Post by lech »

Further Sting SF 2.0 is for people and should help in analysis (zugzwangs, difficult sacrifices).
My work is in progress and I am very happy to see many interesting positions. It helps me.

Now, I can only share a substitute of Sting (without name, my name and source code). It will be only 32bit-exe file without license and any guaranty. Of course, I will wait for feedback.

All my friends who accept these conditions and want to get it and help me please let me know by message box.

BTW
Sting SF 2.0 is 2900+ and works without tricks, parameters etc.
Maybe, I can't be friendly, but let me be useful.

Isn't Sting a modification of Stockfish?

If so, are you permitted to release an executable without the source code?

I am worried that you are (unintentionally) violating the Stockfish license.

No, he is doing it intentionally.
Just one more troll.
Anyway based on his previous posts, I'm >99% that this guy isn't able to code anything useful, so you can simply ignore him...

It just would be better especially if you are making changes to GPL based code, to stick to the license and provide the source and a list with changes also to the beta-testers. The beta testers are free to do what they want with he code and the source, as long as they themselves also follow the GPL, so from that point of view, maybe Marek does not like to see unfinished betas, or unfinished code circulating if beta testers prove not trustworthy, or not sticking to agreements you make with them because they see the code as GPL and think they can do what they like with Marek's copyrighted changes. Not true. Within an organization, you can circulate changed code, or unchanged code without always including the sources, because that is not publishing in the copyright sense. Betatesters could be seen as part of an organized group. But for Marek's sake, I advise him to just follow the GPL to the letter here and always include the changed sources in any package, never only the executable. Saves worries, headaches and hurt feelings reading slightly uncalled for reactions like that of Joona above. But that is just my opinion.

Regards,
Eelco
Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first
place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you
are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it.

But he just made a public offer. You can't circumvent the GPL by distributing on the condition that recipients become part of a special "organisation".

In the end, copyright DOES apply within organisations such as companies. As an employee, you're not allowed to buy a software product and share it with everybody within the company, unless the license allows this.

In the case of the GPL, the FSF suggests on its website that certain forms of "on-site internal distribution" are allowed by the GPL (even though I don't think the GPL itself mentions this...):
Is making and using multiple copies within one organization or company “distribution”?

No, in that case the organization is just making the copies for itself. As a consequence, a company or other organization can develop a modified version and install that version through its own facilities, without giving the staff permission to release that modified version to outsiders.

However, when the organization transfers copies to other organizations or individuals, that is distribution. In particular, providing copies to contractors for use off-site is distribution.
It seems clear to me that this exception is not intended to allow circumvention of the GPL.

You do not need Sting to solve this position.
