It's an interesting idea. However, beta cutoffs are generally quite efficient due to null move (which the author acknowledges). So I wouldn't expect a great reduction in tree size and hence little improvement to strength even if it works.

Interesting paper, perhaps (re)posting on programmers subforum would be more appropriate, at least there would be a bigger chance people understands the topic
