Testing to determine optimal search/eval, etc. parameters...
people are saying it's 'untuned' because Jury himself said it was 'untuned'
(see his release 'blurb')
I guess this is his way of saying it can/may become even stronger with time and effort in this regard...
Russian has diminutive forms of nouns -- "My dear little XXX." One would use these to talk to a lover, a child, pet, etc., as in "My dear little sweetie." I assume other Slavic languages do the same. So:
Rybka = my dear little fish;
Strelka = my dear little arrow.
P.S. "Vodka" is the diminutive of "Voda", which means "Water".
strelka 5 is not only strong, it plays amazing games with amazing evaluations.
a mixture out of THE KING (johan de koning) and CSTAL (c.whittington) and Nimzo (chrilly donninger) in aggressive mode,
with evaluations few times bigger then the opponent program, so similar like mchess or CSTAL.
when the normal rybka-clones all have an evaluation that is LOWER than normal , strelka comes with speculative/full-moon-scores.
a very interesting program.
the way it organizes SPACE and TIME on the board reminds me very much on the king.
the opponent is often paralyzed. often the opponents are not coming above the 4th or even 3rd rank while strelka attacks like hell.
wow !!
congratulations. this is really cool and unsound chess.
What seems like a fairy tale today may be reality tomorrow.
Here we have a fairy tale of the day after tomorrow....

maybe there is a new feature in the program that is yet not much tuned.
the program PLAYS like there is something unique in it.
but ---- i would not say that this new feature needs to be tuned. it plays like hell and i like it much.
it plays much different like other chess programs i have in the moment.
it is not playing like houdini, not playing like rybka or any other program i know.

Jawohl Thorsten !
Tomorrow I'll post here the result of a test match against Deep Rybka 4 (120 games , blitz 4"+2"). Rybka is alredy crushed. 8 victories in a range for S5 - I haven't seen that before !
You are right , Strelka 5 is an amazing chess engine. I observed a lot of games. Played with Rybka like a match mouse-cat !
Something is very particular in this engine. For sure the evaluation !
Bravo Jury ! And......I'm very serious ! You give us a great engine ! Strelka 5 remains on my computers.
