I sent Jim an email about this yesterday.

Here is his reply:
Hi Martin,

I will compile new version very soon.
It's not a clone as far as I am concerned, no 'copy & paste' code that I can see.
Eval terms look Toga/Fruit based with some ideas taken from Crafty, Stockfish.

best,
Jim.

Hello Jim,

I can see that Protector 1.3.3 has been released.

Any plans of compiling it?

Also, what is your thought on this engine? Enough original code not to be considered a Toga/Fruit clone?

There are Linux and Windows executables for 32 and 64 bit environments in the download package at sourceforge.

Hello

Is there a changelog somewhere and I missed it?

I want to know if the difference between 1.3.2 and 1.3.3 is big enough to justify a new test. According to the small number change I assume there is no big change but ... I just assume ...

Thx

New version 1.33 runs a lot slower - about 150k nps slower and it's not due to my compiling, so possibly some extra knowledge added that would account for the slowdown.

Hi Ingo,

Preliminar tests show this is a very good improvement over 1.3.2 version. I use the original compile.

I notice the file size of the Jim Ablett build (protector-133-32-ja.exe) is 276 kb, while the 32-bit version at http://sourceforge.net/projects/protector is 1.98 mb. And the Denis Mendoza 32-bit build at http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?kmryr4d2iot is 1.96 mb.

Why such a huge difference? And which build is best/faster/stronger?

Downloading them and looking what nps the different exes reach may be an option. Even if there are differences, these must be big before they are getting noticeable in a usual number of games. A debug version would be something you will notice.
