This new engine appears to be very strong.

This one seems to be from the author of BBChess?

So Umko looks like it's a more up to date version, but is essentially further development of BBChess?

Perhaps it's new because it's completely rewritten? Just like Glaurung 1 -> Glaurung 2 which people claimed that 2nd version was like entirely new engine and doesn't deserve the same name at all.

Someone should ask the author about whether this is completely separate entity or not.

The engine indeed appears to play at Division 3 or higher.

I think it definitely is over 2600+.

Doesn't work for me either. Just thinks without ever moving. Also eventually begins to use any spare cpus that are available.
Oh well - back to BBChess!

I guess that this is what happens when authors test the engine only in test suites and not in games as I suggested in the programming forum.

You get engines that are very strong but cannot play chess
