your right
i did not notice this until you just mentioned it Anil

the 1982 Robot only returned to base after each ply
that is..it would pick up a piece and then place it...then return to base
even captures or castling would only require a return to base after the full move is completed
the new robot is returning to base after picking up a piece and before placing it
Castling must require something like 4 returns to base

ps..on the flip side..the new Robot seems to move much quicker then the older one

actually the "buy now price is high" but not insanely so
these old Robots are extremely rare ..especially to find a working one..so the prices can be very high
i have two and both no longer work
repairing them is almost impossible because the parts needed for the arm are simply impossible to find today
here is a site which tracks previous Ebay sales of chess computers
on this page you can see what some Robot's have sold for(prices are in Euro's)
