Hi Frank,

iCEs eval is the result of an extensive automated tuning process using genetic algorithms. So its eval is somehow evolved and the absolute values it reports end up being higher than those of other engines, so it is a bit more optimistic or pessimistic than other engines.

So if iCE gives a score of +1 in a game its chance for actually winning the game is lower than those of other engines when they give a +1. I thought about scaling the display score down (just divide it by 2 or so) to be more comparable with other engines but this did not make it in this release. Maybe I do it in the next. But I don't do releases to often, so it will take a while for sure.

Hi !

Under Shredder-Classic i get very often:

Engine 'iCE 2.0 v2240 x64': UCI implementation fault:
illegal end of ponder search!

and have freezes, also very often.

I use the following configuration:


[ENGINE]
Name=iCE 2.0 v2240 x64
Author=Thomas Petzke

Any idea ?

Hi, I don't have the Shredder GUI so I can't comment how iCE behaves in it. Under Arena I haven't seen any freezes but I admit I don't play to many games with ponder on.

Do you have a UCI log file where I can see what commands iCE got and what it responded. Then I can try to figure out what's going on.

Hi there,

now 500 FCT1 games played.
3x lost up to move number 50 and 3x won.
13x lost up to move number 60 and 16x won.

In combination with the speculative eval (41 games I collect where ICE have a very speculative eval, around 1.0 Points higher as the others, in 35 games ICE are right, 5 games later balanced and only 1 games not right.

THAT IS FANTASTIC new stuff.
Perfect for analyzes after the opening moves.
Add the engine to my TOP4 to this point of view. I analyze on quad with 4 engines in one core.

Most of the 41 games are not in the database (replayed, and lines cancelt in my book).

One of the best news this year!!
Really a great engine I have on my harddisk now!
