Just use Edit->Edit Book in WinBoard / XBoard (after specifying the book file in the Common Engine Options dialog). That allows you to alter the weights, add or delete moves in any position.

ok, i am just downloaded the newest 4.6.2 version, and it seems there ist editable moves, but after i change the move e2e4!, its only display e2e4 for 100% and no other moves, is they are removed ?

i would like more a confortable edit of the books, also choice and load different books and save it after edit the moves.

the moves should be editable like in Fritz GUI for the ctg books

weights, good move with !, bad moves with ? and different colored moves for should to play in tournament or the learning weights can be change.

i am asking for this feature because my friend Erdo ist mostly edit book is Fritz GUI , but its not possible to use it book in other GUI too.

or is there any way to convert the CTG format to other book formats like polyglot , Shredder, Arena GUI ??

would be nice if we are find a solution to use his books in any GUI

When you press OK to commit your edited move list to the book, WinBoard parses the (optional) percentage, weight, move triples until it chokes on something unintellegible. If you really wrote an exclamation point after e2e4, I am afraid that this is the point where it would choke, and as a result you would lose all moves after it. (Same thing would happen when you enter illegal moves).

Well, you cannot edit information that is not in the file. Polyglot books do not store ? ! annotations or move colors. So they cannot be edited.

Although the format of CTG books has been reverse engineered, there is all kind of information in those books (like the ? !) for which it is totally un-clear how it is supposed to be used for move choice. The philosophy behind CTG format is quite different from that behind Polyglot books. In the latter, each position has a set of moves, and each move has a 'weight', representing the nominal probabililty that it will be played. (In WinBoard there is a bookVariation setting that allows you to gradually magnify or minimize the effect of the weigths.) In the end the playing probabilities are all that matters.

But CTG books do not directly contain playing probabilities. They contain raw statistics: for each move they contain the number of wins, draws and losses that occurred by playing that move, and in addition they contain 'markers' like !, ? etc. for each move. GUIs using CTG books must somehow implement a recipe for converting these statistics + markers, to playing probabilities of the moves, in a way that depends on GUI settings provided by the user (e.g. variability). But AFAIK that recipe is not public. This makes it impossible to automatically translate a CTG book to a Polyglot book, even for a set of GUI settings specified in advance.
