Firstly, thanks to the author and his helpers for this interesting engine.

Secondly, Strelka is still giving its evaluation of the best move when it has searched the full ply. And further, it only gives a new found best move when it has searched the full ply. This is annoying on longer time controls and in analysis mode. I remember Eelco de Groot and myself pointing out the annoyance of such engine "behavior" not so long ago. 95% of the engines do not do this. Please change this.

Anyway, testing and having fun can start.

Kind regards,

Kaj

Anyone care to translate the source with English comments instead of Russian comments? Smile

Strelka was Yuri Usipov, and Belka had cooperation from another chess programmer also (maybe the SmartThink author or Mustang author -- I forget who).

I did it on the original for myself with the Russian translators found here:
http://www.word2word.com/free.html

Try several Russian to English translators on each comment and you will figure out exactly what he is saying.

That is very good. I think it removes many questions as far as Fruit is concerned, since it is now open source (although the license is not clear).

Now Vas can take a look and know for sure what similarities there are (if he is even interested) and I also invite other chess authors to compare with Fruit and I think that they will also come to the same conclusions that I came to (clearly inspired by Fruit, but not simply a clone).

Uri has found lots of interesting ways to shrink the code of the engine. He may wish to add a fork now, if that seems pleasing to him.

He already took a look into Strelka's source (before it was released) and claimed that it was a clone of Rybka BETA.
