Live engine tournament

Post by kranium »

Hi all-

I'm very interested in seeing engines play 100% of the game themselves, ie: without opening book and/or endgame help.
It especially intrigues me as to what specific opening moves they will choose for themselves.

So, I've started a 280 game RR tournament with the CCRL 40/40 top 8 engines @ TC 40/20 repeating

Intel® Core™ i7-3930K Processor
Windows 7 64-bit

1024 Mb Hash
6 threads
no book
no tablebases

I've created a simple 'live broadcast' page using Paolo Casaschi's excellent pgn4web javascript utilities...
http://pgn4web.casaschi.net
for anyone interested in viewing the games.

Game #1 has stared off interesting fashion with
White: Stockfish 6 x64
vs
Black: Deep Rybka 4.1 x64

Opening: French
Variation: Tarrasch, Closed, 7.Ne2 a5

1. e4 +0.19/26 32 1... e6 -0.17/20 60 2. d4 +0.12/27 19 2... d5 -0.18/19 34 3. Nd2 +0.13/28 27

I was surprised to see SF play 3. Nd2 instead of 3.e5 or some other line

The games can be viewed here:
http://www.chesslogik.com/lcet.html

PS-
This is a 'test' run and there are bound to be problems, so please let me know if you experience any issues during the broadcast.
I'll be analyzing the openings played, and will post the data, the cross-table, and the games for download here every few rounds.

Regards-
Norm

Game #1
Rybka chooses the French Defense, but SF handles it nicely, quickly dispatching black in 35 moves...

Don't know the cause...maybe Chatwing?

A couple of upset wins so far:

Houdini opens with a Queen's Gambit 1. d4 and 2. c4,
Stockfish declines it with 1. ...d5 and 2. ...e6,
which leads to a Neo-Orthodox, Petrosian Variation.
Houdini handles it well, creating a passer on the queenside, and wins quickly in 32 moves.
