Komodo 4 MP

Post by melajara »

It has been more than a month now that I read some news (or rather lack of) about the forthcoming release of what could be the new king of the hill chess engine.

We all know that the window of opportunity inexorably is closing as Houdini 3 is expected for mid September.

Maybe Don Dailey has already decided to prepare for the new front i.e. facing Houdini 3 and Komodo 4 MP will not be released anytime soon.

If so, better to disclose it. If not, could we have an update about the current status of 4 MP, please?

Thanks

I don't believe in the myth of Houdini 3 being the strongest chess engine by September....

Houdini will be surpassed by at least two chess engines by the end of the year....

Komodo is a disappointment indeed regarding the release date....it took toooo long and with every single day passed, the marking of Houdini is harmed more and more....

My opinion is that if Komodo wanted to show something unique and strong performance that would be shown in Komodo 4 single processor.I don't think there are hidden cards here.Only they stall because they want to put some "useless" but commercial features to their MP behaviour
Strelka is the best engine in the world!!

I think they became too obsessed with Houdini!

That is all Larry talks about: "passing Houdini, passing Houdini!"

It is like a reverse Dr. Dolittle!

I think the Komodo team should refocus on what they originally set out to do:

Create an incredibly strong chess engine with unique analysis that can really server a person trying to better his or her own chess skills.

That is what Larry always stated (maybe not in those words) but he has stated more than once that they wanted Komodo to be an with a unique style that provides incredibly useful analysis for users.

Now they just want to "catch" Houdini.

I again say I don't mind paying for something unique and original, useful AND edifying! (which is why I purchased the reasonably priced Komodo 4!)

Heya Tom, I share the same opinion, and think that perhaps it was a mistake as many new powerful engines are appearing almost daily. I fear that Komodo will be left behind, and that would be a real shame! I really like Komodo and its unique playing style, let's hope they prove me wrong. Time will tell......

The MP version is delayed a bit due to Don's having some health problems, hopefully to be resolved soon. The latest single processor version is now on a par with Houdini, too close to call. Houdini 2 is still stronger at bullet chess, Komodo is probably stronger at time limits slower than blitz, but hard to be sure.

Hi Larry!

First and foremost I wish Don well and hope he is back to healthy as soon as possible!!

And I must ask what the obsession with Houdini is? You sort of reinforced my point with your post.

Houdini is great! Komodo is great!

But I definitely don't want to see some freakish hybrid Houkomodiniritter engine! :)

All the top engines have certain elements in common, particularly heavy use of late move pruning. But Komodo has less in common with Houdini/Ivanhoe than it does with Stockfish, so no worries about Komodo being too much like Houdini. I hope that when the new version is released and tested, it will be clear that Komddo scaales better than Houdini and is hence the better tool for analysis. If we are weaker than Houdini at intermediate levels (like 40/20) people just won't believe that Komodo is the better analysis tool. I think that is no longer the case though.

I hope Don will be OK. Are there any chances to see KOMODO MP by the end of June? HOUDINI 3 is due to be released in September, and is going to be about at least 40 ELO points than HOUDINI 2!! So unfortunately, AGAIN HOUDINI will be number one. Unless if DEEP RYBKA 5 shows up. Do you happen to know if we will see DEEP RYBKA 5 Released by the end of this fall? Best regards!

I'm sorry to hear that Don health problems are still here.
Very best wishes to him for his recovery.

As 4 MP is not imminent, will you consider in the mean time an update of the SP version ?
