Hashtables size in ChessWar

Post by Olivier Deville »

Current rules of ChessWar say :

"Default main hashtables size : 128Mb"

The hardware is a Dual Opteron 252 4Gb running on WinXP Pro x64.

The time control is 40/40 for group A, 40/30 for group B and 40/20 for the other groups.

Do you think the default hashtables size shoud be increased ?

Olivier

For the time control 128mb should be enough. There are some engines that are incapable of 128mb hash tables. Big hash tables can be counter productive in some ways.

ChessWar is a league based tournament on equal hardware. Not every engine is capable of larger hash table sizes. This gives an unfair advantage to those that can use higher than 128mb.

It's different in the WCCC for example, where you have Cozzie and his Space Shuttle or Diep and his Cray. Very funny btw

I feel that the idea of Chesswar is to find the program with the best evaluation otherwise it would allow authors to use their own hardware. To me hash tables are in this way hardware orientated. Conditions should where as equal as possible.

Hi Christopher,
I copied the contents of ChessGUI's EcoList.txt file from some googled web site which did not seem related to you

To invade Poland, first I would have to burn down my house, blame it on Poland and then shoot BACK
