Well, Shogi is Chess, right? You might call it 'Japanese Chess', but in Japan FIDE Chess is called 'Western Shogi'. Shogi is simply the Japanese word for 'Chess', like Xiangqi is the Chinese word for 'Chess'.

There is more to Chess than just the Mad Queen variant...

Well, as far as I know, western chess is called "chess" in Japanese. It is written チェス in katakana, which can be transcribed as "chesu". Pronunciation is funny:

Mr. Habu in an interview once said that he will eventually be a Grandmaster in the two most famous form of both Chess, now he only needs to become a Western Grandmaster, probably in 4 to 5 more years :wink:

After the 5th round of 22nd WCSC, the standing comes like this;
1, GPS Shogi - 5-0
2, Ponanza - 4-1
3,Tsutsukana, Puella Alpha - 3-2
5,Gekisashi, Shuso - 3-2
7,YSS - 1-4
8,Blunder - 0-5
